Equities moved both the ways but finally closed in negative column at the Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) amid descending transaction volume on Friday. The LSE-25 index declined by 01.93 points and was closed at 5020.33 points against 5022.26 points of Thursday, while transaction volume slashed to 02.891 million shares, as compared to previous volume of 03.440 million shares.
According to brokers, the market players are showing cautious response and are not taking fresh positions. However, the levels of a few dividend oriented shares are still attractive, they added. Murree Brewery Company Limited, PSO, Engro Foods, PPL, Shell Pakistan, Brothers Textile Mills, Engro Corporation Limited, Bank Al-Habib Limited, Pakgen Power Limited and Adamjee Insurance Company registered gains, while Gul Ahmed Textiles Limited, Maple Leaf Cement Factory Limited, Engro Fertilizers Limited, Kohinoor Energy Limited, Dewan Farooq Motors, Bank Alfalah Limited, Byco Petroleum Pakistan, Japan Power Generation PIA and Askari Bank Limited suffered losses and closed in minus column.
The gainers were ahead with the losers, as out of a total of 86 companies, 27 showed strength and were closed in green zone, 15 suffered losses, while 44 companies stayed unchanged at their previous levels. Among the gainers, Murree Brewery Company Limited gained Rs 26.42, PSO was improved by Rs 6.50, Engro Foods was appreciated by Rs 3.53, while PPL, Shell Pakistan, Brothers Textile Mills, Engro Corporation Limited, Bank Al-Habib Limited, Pakgen Power Limited and Adamjee Insurance Company were up by Rs 3.20, Rs 2.76, Re 1, paisa-70, paisa-56, paisa-48 and paisa-40, respectively.
On the other hand, Gul Ahmed Textiles Limited shed paisa-90, Maple Leaf Cement Factory Limited was declined by paisa-89; Engro Fertilizers Limited lost paisa-30, while Kohinoor Energy Limited, Dewan Farooq Motors, Bank Alfalah Limited, Byco Petroleum Pakistan, Japan Power Generation PIA and Askari Bank Limited were down by paisa-17, paisa-16, paisa-15, paisa-13, paisa-11, paisa-10 and paisa-9, respectively. The volume leader of the day included NIB Bank with 1,248,000 shares, the Bank of Punjab with 394,500 shares and Maple Leaf Cement Factory Limited with 335,000 shares.
