The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has expressed satisfaction over the quality of different petroleum products being supplied by the state-run Oil Marketing Company (OMC) Pakistan State Oil (PSO), an official communiqué stated.
The regulatory body OGRA after receiving complaints from consumers on the quality of different oil products being sold by the PSO at many outlets across the country had directed the Hydro-Carbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) to take fuel samples from various PSO retail outlets for testing; the findings of the HIDP was that it detected nothing wrong with the fuel supplied by the national fuel supplying company and that it was selling fuel in accordance with the set standards of quality.
According to the letter written to PSO management (a copy of which is available with Business Recorder), the regulator states "PSO being the largest Oil Marketing Company with its wide spread strategic storage infrastructure was maintaining best industry practices and is an asset for the country".
The HDIP had taken samples of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) from various PSO retail outlets situated in Islamabad city on March 4, 2014. They submitted a report to OGRA which concluded that the samples tested "fully met the country specifications for diesel as notified by the Federal Government/Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources (MPNR)."
As per the HDIP report available, PSO's diesel contained low sulphur content which results in environmental friendliness and protection of vehicle engines. The element of better volatility was also witnessed in PSO's diesel sample which leads to good combustion and lower carbon emissions.
Sabar Hussain, Vice Chairman OGRA/ Member Oil after a recent visit by a joint team from the regulator and the Ministry of Petroleum to various PSO storage facilities had written a letter to PSO management. The letter stated that the safety and housekeeping arrangements at different facilities were encouraging and in line with PSO's emphasis on health, safety and environmental concerns. The letter further stated that PSO being the largest Oil Marketing Company with its wide spread strategic storage infrastructure was maintaining best industry practices and was an asset for the country.
