Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shaukatullah has said that peace and stability in the Federally-Administered Tribal Area (Fata) was the most important pre-requisite for development of the province and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was striving hard to find a peaceful solution to the problem of militancy and terrorism in the country.
He said the government was sincerely holding peace talks with the Taliban. He said that valuable services and sacrifices of tribesmen for the country and nation would always be remembered forever with admiration. He stressed upon the tribal people and elders to play their effective role for the restoration of peace in the region.
He expressed these views while addressing the grand Jirga of Khyber Agency at its Tehsil, Landikotal, on Thursday. Besides, Members National Assembly, Haji Shahji Gul and Nasir Khan Afridi, Additional Chief Secretary Arbab Muhammad Arif, Principal Secretary to the Governor Dr Muhammad Fakhare Alam and the Commissioner of Peshawar accompanied the Governor while the political administration of the agency was also present on the occasion.
On the occasion, the governor directed the political administration to take all possible measures to ensure completion of development projects within stipulated time. The governor assured them of taking necessary action to address their demands. He said that major development schemes would be included in next annual development programme for the uplift of Fata and tribal people.
He also touched upon reconstruction of the Jamrud-Torkham Highway. The project entails improving and expanding the route. The government was very conscious of the importance of the international route, he remarked. He said that Pak-Afghan highway will open new avenues of relationship in trade and economy in the region. He directed the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to ensure the completion of Pak-Afghan highway within the stipulated time.
