At least 50 CCTV cameras would be installed to facilitating the Multan city police for effective monitoring and surveillance while a command & control centre would be established, said Commissioner Multan Sher Alam Masood while addressing a high-level meeting in Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Amin Vance said "we are going to establish a trust under public private partnership for taking measures for beefing up security arrangements and safety of the general public. Ownership of this trust would be given to Multan chamber." He said initial cost of this modern security system would be Rs 54,177,500 and monthly expenses would also be borne by the committee, adding the traders as well as industrialists would have to come forward for financial assistance.
RPO said "we have completed the survey of Multan city and 75 percent homework has already been completed. A committee was being formed comprising representatives of district administration, police and Multan chamber." He further said 50 CCTV cameras would be installed in first phase. Optical fibre network was being introduced to facilitate the business community to connect the cable of its cameras with it. The 24-hours surveillance would be provided for ensuring better security monitoring. A complete briefing was given to the participants with the help of multi media.
RPO Muhammad Amin vance used the suspects' alleged plot to make the case for more surveillance cameras. "You're never going to know where all of our cameras are. And that's one of the ways you deter people; they just don't know whether the person sitting next to you is just somebody sitting there or a detective watching." He promised that the Multan City Police Department is expanding its already massive network of cameras.
Commissioner Multan Sher Alam Masood said citizens should help the administration in this project whole heatedly. "We would also talk to the government on the infra-structure to get contribution."
