Hard red winter wheat spot basis bids in the US Plains were unchanged on Friday, merchants said. Wheat industry representatives were planning a tour of top wheat-grower Kansas to assess the health and production potential of the new crop in that state.
The Wheat Quality Council has set tour dates from April 28-May 1. The current wheat crop has been hurt by winterkill, wind damage and drought. The extent of damage will be assessed during the wheat quality tour. Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City were unchanged. KC May wheat traded at $7.27-3/4 early Friday.
