K-Electric (Formerly KESC) has categorically rejected the false accusations made in a negative report appearing on April 10, in which it was claimed that certain key management figures at KE are inappropriate and on non-technical basis.
A press statement was released by KE in which it was said that there was no specific rule, precondition or requirement in Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution Act, 1997 (Nepra Act) to the effect that only engineers could be appointed as Chairman, CEO or top managers of a Distribution, Generation or Transmission company, something that the writer of the story had no idea about.
The press statement released by K-Electric categorically said that the writer of the story quoted some 'sources' who did not even know that whilst running a generation, transmission and distribution network, KE had ticked all the prerequisites required and had fulfilled all requirements sought by Nepra. The story quotes a so-called expert such as GR Bhatti who claims KE is being run by non-technical staff, but the writer does not know that it was GR Bhatti who was sacked from KE after he was caught violating the company's policy and has ever since been trying to hurt the company's image in front of media. Nepra as mentioned earlier states categorically, that there is no specific rule that only engineers could be appointed as top managers of a Distribution, Generation or Transmission company. KE stated that the writer of the story failed to understand, that it was these so-called 'Non-Technical' people that have added more than 1,000MWs into the system and it was them who were working on coal-based power generation before anyone else.
The published story also gave out a falsified designation, as KE's Syed Arshad Zahidi was not a Chief Strategic Officer, but the Chief Generation & Transmission Officer, and with such Arshad Zahidi had nothing to do with the distribution network of the city. Labelling the top management as 'Non-Technical' was unjustified, as it was because of KE's top management that institutes such as the IMF and ADB along with the Central Bank of Pakistan, the State Bank and the Harvard Business School have appreciated KE's management for the business they are providing. It was the management of KE that has successfully spearheaded construction and commissioning of four fast-track power plants in which the State-of-the-art BQPS2 was a part of. KE's 'Segmented Load-shed Plan' is also being appreciated and adopted across the country, and it was devised and implemented by the top management that the writer speaks of.-PR
