Prime Minister of Republic of Korea, Chung Hongwon on Tuesday visited Shakarparian Viewpark and planted a sapling of Chir Pine (Pinus Roxburghii) as a memorial of his visit to Islamabad. The visiting dignitary was accompanied by Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal who is also Minister in waiting and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Maroof Afzal.
After planting the sapling, the minister in waiting told the Korean Prime Minister that he hoped 'the plant to grow tall and remain green forever'. Similar views were also expressed by the Korean Premier over Pak-Korea bilateral ties. Chung Hongwon took round of the park and viewed the growing verdant memorial plants, planted by various world leaders during their visits to Islamabad.
Later, the Korean Prime Minister and his delegation was led to the Pakistan Monument by minister in waiting Ahsan Iqbal. The dignitary and his delegation took keen interest in the imposing structure of the Monument and the art work symbolising the historical struggle of Pakistan Movement led by its founding fathers.
He then took rounds of the Monument and had a bird's eye view of the panoramic Capital city of Pakistan. He was also briefed about the prominent buildings appearing distinctly on the Capital's skyline with lush green Margalla Hills in the background. The Korean Prime Minister also visited different sections of Pakistan Monument Museum and was given a briefing about the Indo-Pak history and the Pakistan Movement.
Chung Hongwon and his delegation were engrossed in the artwork and artifacts depicting the historic movement led by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan and Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the great poet who shaped Muslims' thoughts in the Sub-continent for a separate homeland. The Korean Prime Minister also wrote his views on the visitors' book.
