The Senate was informed on Wednesday that services of two retired army majors, hired for security and maintenance of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's mausoleum in Karachi, were terminated after they were found guilty of allowing indecent activities in the premises of the Mazar-e-Quaid.
Responding to a question raised by Hafiz Hamdullah of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), information minister Pervaiz Rashid said a thorough inquiry was conducted and persons involved in the shameful act were removed. In February 2014, a private TV channel had caught some employees of Mazar-e-Quaid who were carrying out immoral activities in the basement of the mausoleum in connivance with the senior management deployed for the security of the mausoleum.
In a written reply, Pervaiz Rashid told the house that two retired majors of the army - Ather Mir and Muhammad Akhter - who were hired through a private security firm for the maintenance of the mausoleum, and some employees were sacked after it was proved they were behind immoral activities.
About investigation into the matter, the minister said a thorough probe was conducted after a private TV channel reported on February 22, 2014 that the basement stairs were used for illicit/immoral activities in connivance with the employees of mausoleum. "Yes the matter was investigated and following punitive actions have been taken: Services of two outsourced employees namely, Abdul Rasheed, supervisor janitorial and Kamran (security guard) were terminated and an FIR was also lodged against them in Police Station Brigade Karachi. Police has submitted a challan in the Court of Judicial Magistrate 11 East, and a trial is being conducted accordingly," he added.
He further stated that Abdul Aleem, Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil) Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Management Board has been placed under suspension; besides, the contract made with security firm ie M/s Murtaza Security has been annulled. "The Contract with Maintenance Firm ie M/s Effaf Enterprises was suspended but the firm has obtained a stay order from the Sindh High Court (SHC) against suspension of their contract and the matter is currently subjudice," he added.
