In a bid to implement the vision 2020 for internalisation of higher education institutions in Pakistan, the University of Peshawar and Shandong University of Science and Technology of China have signed an agreement for starting PhD split programme and establishment of Chinese language centre at UoP.
The agreement was signed by University of Peshawar Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan and Shangdong University President Professor Dr Ren Tingqi in a ceremony held in Shangdong, China, according to a press release issued here on Saturday.
The two parties have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of PhD programme, teaching and research, arranging workshops and seminars, training of research students/ faculty growth, establishment of Chinese language and cultural centre, joint publication of academic and research results, joint research projects, according to the MoU.
The purpose of the collaboration is to explore potential mutually beneficial research and community based projects, said Vice Chancellor UoP Prof Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan in his address in the Chinese University. He said China was the most feasible option for Pakistan for the development of education through mutual efforts and thereby strengthening the people to people bonds.
Dr Rasul Jan said the longstanding bilateral relationship between two countries has been mutually beneficial. The practical educational linkages, however, is only a decade old but there is tremendous opportunity to take it to greater heights so that the people of both the countries should prosper together, Dr Rasul Jan added.
The agreement would enable the two institutions to develop appropriate communication linkages in order to facilitate information transfer, said president of Shangdong University of Science and Technology Prof Dr Ren Tingqi. He said that exploring activities such as exchange of students and faculty for research would mutually benefit both the parties.
It is pertinent to mention that UoP Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan is on an educational visit to the People's Republic of China and South Korea.
