KARACHI: Senate elections will be held on March 2, 2012, announced the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday.
According to the ECP, candidates can file their papers by February 13 and 14 to contest elections.
It may be mentioned, provincial assemblies make up the electoral college for the upper house of parliament. It will be for the first time in the history of Pakistan if the polls give PPP a majority in the Senate. Indications are that the PPP may have more than 40 members in the upper house, giving them an unprecedented edge in Senate.
That result could increase President Zardari’s chances for getting re-elected.
