The salaries and allowances of the provincial ministers, speaker, deputy speaker and members' provincial assembly went up many folds after the passage of two separate but identical bills by the provincial legislature on Friday. The two bills titled The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Salaries, Allowances and Privileges Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2014 and The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ministers (Salaries, Allowances and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2014 were presented by Special Assistant on Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Arif Yusuf Advocate.
After the adoption of the bills the basic pays of the provincial ministers, advisors, special assistants and MPAs had gone up by 90, 94.4 and 50 per cent respectively. The basic pay of provincial ministers was increased from Rs 21000 to Rs 40000; Advisors & Special Assistants from Rs 18000 to Rs 35000 while the BPS of MPA was jacked up from Rs 12000 to Rs 18000.
The legislators of the province will now also receive annual travelling allowance of Rs 40000 per annum while per kilometre travelling allowance has also been increased from Rs 3 to Rs 15. Furthermore, the legislators now will also receive a monthly fixed medical allowance of Rs 9000. However, in case of additional expenses they will have to deposit medical bill. Similarly, the MPAs will also receive a monthly house rent of Rs 30000/-. Similarly, they will also be entitled to receive a conveyance allowance at the rate of Rs 640/- per diem for the period of residence on duty and for the day of arrival and the day of departure from the place where a session of the assembly or a meeting of committee is held or where any other business connected with his duties as such member is transacted only during assembly session.
The salary and other emoluments of the members will automatically be increased by government in proportion increase to be made in the salaries of the civil servants in BPS-20 from time to time. The monthly salary of the Speaker, which was earlier Rs 31500 will now receive Rs 81000 per month and will also receive an amount of Rs 200,000 per annum for additional travelling.
