There are all kinds of ways to get data from your smartphone onto a TV for a live presentation. However, using a cable is generally more reliable than wireless options, explains German telecommunications portal Teltarif.de. The best way to transfer video is with an HDMI cable. Unfortunately, not many smartphones have the right connection for it.
However, there are adapters for newer Apple devices, allowing the Lightning connector to be linked to an HDMI port.
Android smartphone or tablet owners can try out the SlimPort or MHL standards, if they are supported. The necessary cables, which usually fit into a phone's USB slot and a TV's HDMI port, cost between 7 and 20 euros (9.50 and 27 dollars).
A lot of Android users rely on Miracast technology for getting their smartphone images onto a larger display. But not a lot of televisions are compatible yet with this newer technology.
However, they can be retrofitted with an adapter, which runs for about 20 euros.
Note that image quality is usually not great with this option and there can also be compatibility problems if linked devices come from different manufacturers.
Apple's AirPlay standard is better for sharing. However, it only works if the TV has been connected to the company's Apple TV network player, which costs about 100 euros.
