Vice Chairman of Pakistan People's Party Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Tuesday that the PPP will fully support the federal government's decision to launch military operation against the Taliban in North Waziristan as it was in the interest of the country.
Speaking at the Meet the Press programme at the Karachi Press Club, Gilani was of the view that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government should revise its policies and approach in running the country's affairs to win more support and co-operation from other democratic forces.
He recounted the successful policies of the last PPP-led coalition government under the guidance of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. "Despite having a simple majority, we proved as the best coalition democratic government. Others should also follow the same spirit," he added.
The former prime minister said the PPP government and the party had also shown great restraint and honoured every decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Justice Muhammad Iftikhar Chaudhry. Referring to his disqualification, the former prime minister maintained that he had all respects for the apex court but he could not violate the Constitution of the country by writing a letter against then president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari who enjoyed immunity under the Constitution.
He said he would file a review petition soon in the SC against his disqualification. Gilani said he appeared before the Sindh High Court on Tuesday to get relief from his non-bailable warrants issued by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). He succeeded in convincing the court that the case against him was unconstitutional and FIA can not issue non-bailable warrants against him. The honourable court suspended the warrants against him and was released against personal guarantee. The former prime minister reiterated PPP's stance on creating South Punjab province and urged the PML-N government to do the same at the earliest possible time.
