Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan, while appreciating the ambitious plans of the National Highway Authority(NHA) towards development of road network in the province, has said the improvement in pace of progress on the ongoing projects coupled with ensuring quality of work in all respects is must to bring a better impact of the hectic efforts and the resources.
Governor, Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan, while presiding over a briefing meeting on working, achievements and future goals of the authority in the province at Governor's House, Peshawar on Thursday, appreciated the completion of the new bridges over River Indus at Khushalgarh and the Swat River at Chakdara.
He took keen interest in the pace of progress on rehabilitation of flood damaged road infrastructures both in Swat and Kaghan Vallies; construction of Lawari Tunnel; Peshawar Northern Bypass; under construction Chamkani Interchange near Peshawar; dualization of Indus Highway and construction of Hazara Expressway. He said that completion of all these projects would bear great impact on the socio-economic life of the people both at the national and provincial levels.
The briefing conducted by the Chairman, NHA, Shahid Ashraf Tarar along with the Member Planning; Member Construction; Member Operations; Peshawar based General Manager and project directors responsible for implementation and maintenance of the NHA's owned highways in the province was also attended by the Provincial Secretary, Communication and Works, Ahmad Hanif Orakzai. Principal Secretary to Governor, Muhammad Fakhar-e-Alam was also present on this occasion.
Referring to the pace of progress on Lawari Tunnel on Nowshera-Chitral Highway, the Governor said, though this project of vital importance is envisaged to be completed in next three years, yet possibility needs to be explored to facilitate the people of the land locked district to the maximum possible extent, especially during the severe weather conditions.
"To avoid untoward incidents, there is also the need not only to take precautionary measures in shape of making timely supply of goods possible but also educate the people; the trading and business community in particular to extend support and co-operation in maintaining pace of progress on the project", he remarked.
