Apropos 'Worsening law and order situation: KCCI to approach PM for army's deployment in Karachi' it is highly disturbing to note that Karachi's law and order situation has once again assumed alarming proportions, necessitating the demands for troops' deployment in country's economic and financial hub. As reported by the newspaper, a meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has decided to approach Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for deployment of army in Karachi to assist Rangers and police in restoration of a lasting peace.
The meeting discussed the worsening law and order situation in the city and decided to take joint steps to improve the situation. Besides KCCI members, chairmen of six industrial association including Site Association of Industry Younus M Bashir, Chairman North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry (FBAATI) Shaikh Mohammad Tahseen, Chairman SITE Super Highway Association Mehmood Rangoonwala, Chairman Businessmen Group and Former President KCCI Siraj Kassim Teli, President KCCI Abdullah Zaki and others attended the meeting.
Quoting sources, the report claims that it was decided that the chamber would send an SOS letter to the Prime Minister and demand immediate deployment of army in the city to improve law and order situation. The chamber will also request the Prime Minister to order action against unregistered prepaid SIMs being used in the country and block them forthwith.
That the law and order situation in Karachi is profoundly grim is a stark reality. The Sindh government must take corrective measures aimed at redressing the security concerns of business community without any further loss of time. No doubt, deployment of troops in Karachi will strongly contribute to the widely-held perception that it has miserably failed to do its job.
