Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani said here on Saturday that the country has been surrounded by non-state elements and democracy is under threat which could only be saved by dispensation of justice. He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held in honour of Justice Umar Ata Bandial at Supreme Court's Lahore Registry.
The CJP said that supremacy of law, justice and the Constitution is not possible only with some amended words, but with true spirits. He further said that intolerance was increasing in the country which had become a major threat to democracy beside of other reasons. Stressing upon the speedy justice, the CJP said that there was enough to be done to restore trust of people on judiciary and judicial system in the country. Justice Umar Atta Bandial said that civilised societies always respected the law. He said that judges never reacted over the threats of people hurled at them or over the problems they faced. He said they were recognised by their judgements.
