Under-treatment injured asked to appear before tribunal: important announcement today

A Judicial Tribunal holding inquiry into a police operation at Minhajul Quran Secretariat here on Wednesday directed four under-treatment injured persons at Jinnah Hospital to appear before the court to record their statements on July 04.
The tribunal comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najfi passed this order after recording the statement of the medical superintendent of Jinnah Hospital who stated that all four under-treatment injured persons are conscious, stable and fit to record their statements.
Giving details about the injured persons brought to Jinnah Hospital, the MS said 23 people were admitted to Jinnah Hospital; out of which, three died during treatment while 16 were discharged. He said four were still under treatment at orthopedic unit. He said in a few days they would also be discharged. He said they had been identified as Waqas, Haroon, Meraj Din and Arsalan.
Advocate Aftab Ahmed Bajwa questioned the legality of the tribunal. To this, Justice Najfi told him that if he had objection over the constitution of the tribunal he should not appear before it. The judge observed, "I am here under the mandate of law". Then Bajwa however urged the tribunal to decide his applications for provision of record of the affidavits and statements of different government functionaries before the tribunal. He also requested the tribunal to pass an order on his application through which he had requested the registration of an FIR against police officers and others, including the Chief Minister Punjab. The tribunal remarked that a decision on these applications would be announced on Thursday (today).
Abdullah Malik, a human rights activist, appearing before the tribunal suggested that police should be directed to arrest their colleagues responsible of killings and causing injuries to the activists of Pakistan Awami Tehrik. He said over a dozen police personnel were suspended over an attack by a cat on a pet peacock at Chief Minister's House, but no one was suspended over the Model Town killings. Appearing before the tribunal, Advocate Shabnam Nagi suggested that chief minister must be arrested and his suspension was necessary for an impartial inquiry.
