Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has said that he was not consulted by the party leadership in Pakistan over the Protection of Pakistan Bill 2014 in the Parliament, adding that the law is against fundamental human rights. Talking to journalists via phone from London during an informal session at Karachi Press Club, MQM chief admitted that the PPB is a bitter pill, which the nation has to swallow till the logical end of the ongoing military operation in tribal areas.
He demanded of the federal government to repeal this law after conclusion of the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan, adding that MQM would not allow this bill to last long. He prayed for the success of Pakistan Army in the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan and elimination of terrorism and sectarianism from the country.
Altaf said that MQM would prove through its scheduled July 6 public gathering that the nation stood by its armed forces. He said that MQM workers had extended support to rehabilitation and relief activities during past army operations and they were still ready to assist in relief and rehabilitation work, however, he declined to send any fighters for supporting army, saying that MQM activists were not trained to fight.
Altaf said that he had been raising the issue of Talibanisation in Karachi for the last three years but no political party including PPP and incumbent Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah had paid any heed to his concerns. "Consensus among political parties over operation in North Waziristan and action against criminal elements in Karachi is a good omen," he opined.
He urged Army's top brass and federal government to forgive Geo News for broadcasting hours-long transmission against ISI Chief, adding that the media group should not have blamed such a high profile official without any solid proof. He also demanded of cable operators to immediately restore Geo and ARY News and said that a ban on these channels was creating problems for thousands of their workers, who are the sole bread earners for their families. MQM leaders Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Farooq Sattar, Nasreen Jalil, senior journalists and KUJ and KPC office-bearers were also present.
