The tribunal holding an inquiry into the Minhajul Quran secretariat killings here on Thursday expressed its serious dissatisfaction over an interim investigation report of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT). The tribunal headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi observed that although JIT had held five meetings, it failed to come up with any progress in the investigation.
Earlier, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Saif Murtaza, member of the JIT, submitted an interim report on the matter. He said members of the aggrieved party were not co-operating with the team despite several requests. Showing dismay over the performance of the JIT, Justice Najafi asked the DSP whether the JIT was facing any undue pressure from any quarter. The officer, however, maintained that the JIT was holding its investigation independently.
During the hearing of case, a regular report showing progress in the case investigation was submitted on behalf of the IGP. The tribunal directed the IGP to provide details about actions taken against police officials facing inquiries either departmentally or otherwise for their alleged involvement in shooting outside Minhajul Quran Secretariat.
Meanwhile, it was stated on behalf of the CCPO that 11 injured persons of the incident had been served notices but they did not appear before the tribunal. Notices to 23 other injured were not served due to incorrect addresses available with the police. The tribunal reissued notices to them for July 9.
Additional advocate general Hanif Khatana appeared before the tribunal and sought time to file a reply to an application questioning the legal status of the tribunal. Advocate Aftab Ahmad Bajwa had filed an application. The judge decided to proceed with the applications on July 09. Some valuable suggestions were made by President Civil Society Network Abdullah Malik and Shabnam Aslam Nagi, Sarfraz Hussain advocates.
