Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed his disappointment and unhappiness over the performance of Ministry of Water and Power with regard to the current electricity loadshedding. Prime Minister has summoned the entire team of Water and Power Ministry ie Federal Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Asif, Minister of State, Abid Sher Ali and Secretary Water and Power, Nargis Sethi. People are facing 12- to 18-hour loadshedding.
Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on July 14 apologised to the nation for unscheduled loadshedding. Well-informed sources in the Ministry of Water and Power told Business Recorder that there was disarray in the meeting and the power sector team failed to give proper replies to the questions raised by the Prime Minister.
"The Prime Minister was disappointed and unhappy on poor performance of Ministry of Water and Power," the sources said. Water and Power Ministry''s team on one hand was of the view that the system cannot endure more than 15000 MW electricity but on the other, was seen as requesting Prime Minister for more furnace oil. The Secretary Water and Power tried to convince the Prime Minister that power crisis in Lahore was due to faults in transformers. The Prime Minister, sources said, was of the view: "What logic you are giving to me! It''s your job to settle things."
