Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) and former Prime Minister Senator Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has strongly criticised the decision to enforce Article 245 and said the govt should not make the army shield for achieving its political aims.
"Prior to the enforcement of Article 245 the govt should assure the army that Parliament would give constitutional protection to the steps taken by the army during this period, he demanded.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, he said despite the worst law and order situation in Karachi no measures had been taken under Article 245 but calling the army in Islamabad on the basis of presumptions was not understandable.
Chaudhry Shujaat said that it was not wise to put the Armed Forces of Pakistan into difficulties during operation Zarb-e-Azb, in case of no indemnity the rulers would push the army into constitutional bog.
The veteran politician pointed out that in the background of constitutional history of Pakistan, military actions of late General Ziaul Haq and General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) were given constitutional protection by the parliament, likewise it would be essential that in the present circumstances the military actions were provided constitutional validation by the parliament.
