Spot basis bids for hard red winter wheat held steady in the southern US Plains on Thursday and farmer offerings were light as the harvest progressed farther north, in South Dakota and Montana. USDA reported export sales of US wheat in the latest week at 801,000 tonnes, all for 2014/15, including 452,700 tonnes of hard red winter wheat.
The basis at the inland port of Catoosa, Oklahoma, was unchanged on Thursday after falling 10 cents over the last week in response to higher costs for barge freight, a dealer said. Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City rose 10 cents a bushel for wheat with 11.80 percent and 13.00 through 13.60 percent protein. Premiums rose 5 cents for 12.00 to 12.60 percent protein while other grades were unchanged to 1 cent higher.
