Like elsewhere in the country, preparations to celebrate the 68th Independence Day of Pakistan are in full swing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). As only 11-days days left in Jashn-e-Azadi, the people belonging to every walk of life are busy in decorating their houses, shopping malls, bungalows, bazaars, car, busses, motorcycles, trucks and bicycles with national flags and stickers to celebrate the Independence Day with national zeal and enthusiasm.
In Peshawar too, great hustle and bustle is being witnessed among Peshawarites especially among children as they are busy in buying varieties of things related to beautifully decorate their houses, buildings, markets, shops and vehicles with national flags, stickers and fancy lights to express their love for the homeland created by father of the Nation Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on 14th August, 1947 after numerous sacrifices rendered by our forefathers during Pakistan Movement.
Special stalls in different bazaars including Qissa Khawani Bazaar, which is considered as a hub, in city and Liaqat bazaars in cantonment have been set-up where customers especially children and students thronged for buying national flags, stickers and badges to celebrate independence day with great pump and show.
Paras Khan, a first year FSc student along with a dozen of cousins seemed to buying things in Qissa Khawani Bazaar. "It would a special year as from the last many years the people of Peshawar were traumatize and were confined to their homes. We were also not allowed by our parents to visit Bazaars because of law and order situations but this time, we are hopefully heading toward a complete and durable peace," Paras Khan remarked.
A shop owner in Qissa Khawani Bazaar when asked about the people buying things, he said he had been running this business since long and people are showing great enthusiasm in buying things to celebrate Independence Day this year.
"I am hopeful that I will sell thousands of flags, badges, stricter and other material this year as great enthusiasm is being founds among children on Independence Day," he remarked. The improvement of law and order in Peshawar has helped people to come out from their homes this year and buy stickers, national flags and badges carrying photos of national heroes on eve of Jashn-e-Azadi, he added.
The transporters are being seen decorating their vehicles with national flags, colourful stickers and banners inscribed with Independence Day greetings.
Aminullah, a rickshaw driver, parked his rickshaw and asked the shop keeper to give him a big national flag. "I am getting two big national flags, one for my rickshaw and the other for my house in the village 'Kabapain', Aminullah added "We are lucky to have Eid celebration after Holy month of Ramazan, followed by Independence Day celebrations that certainly doubled our happiness this year," he remarked.
People especially school children were seen buying the Independence Day material in Liaqat Bazaar, Karim Pura Bazaar, Hashnagri Bazaar, Kohati Gate. "I came from Charsadda to Qissa Khawani Bazaar Peshawar for buying a national flag, stickers, badges, and other things related to Independence Day celebration to put on display in my shop in Charsadda as most of the children daily visiting asking for these things," Roohullah, a shop owner in Charsadda bazaar said.
Ibrahim, who has passed his SSC examination with Grade-A (+) from BISE Peshawar said that I have more than Rs 5000, the money we all cousins gathered to be spent on the Independence Day celebrations this year. He said the month of August has always brought happiness for us because of Pakistan Independence Day, Ibrahim said.
