IGP Sindh, Ghulam Haider Jamali has directed the police to ensure establishment of women and children desks in every police station in the shortest possible time. He was presiding over a meeting at CPO here on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Addl IGP Karachi/Traffic Ghulam Qadir Thebo, DIG Crime, Establishment, Headquarters, RRF, and AIG Operations, Welfare, R&D, Muhafiz, Finance and Director IT Sindh Police.
DIG of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, and DIG of South, West and East Ranges participated in the meeting through video conference. The IGP said that the women/child desk would ensure assistance to citizens in cases pertaining to women and children. He also reviewed the overall security measures and crime detections rate and noted that the security apparatus needs to be revisited and upgraded. The existing forensic facilities are required to be extended and necessary steps taken for establishment of DNA Laboratory", he added.
Jamali also reviewed in details the existing anti-crime strategy and directed to launch a comprehensive crackdown against criminals involved in organised crimes and other social evils. He further directed to accelerate the ongoing drive to apprehend proclaimed offenders, absconders and submit progress report in this regard on daily basis. He also reviewed progress of investigation into the cases of Kidnapping for ransom and missing persons. He directed for practical efforts for the recovery of abductees. The IGP while reviewing the target killing incidents in the city took briefs about the case to case investigation pertaining to sectarian killing cases. He directed for the prevention of such ugly incidents and to detect the registered cases on priority basis.
He further directed to re-activate/re-establish peace committees including religious leaders of all sects for sectarian harmony and to weed out the nefarious designs of evil elements hatching conspiracies. He said that the all range DIGs must convene meetings with the religious leaders and submit compliance report, as soon as possible. Jamali also analysed the progress into Shaheed Police Personnel cases and issued pertinent instructions to Karachi Police and Crime Branch. He also evaluated the procedure of financial and other welfare facilities/assistance to the legal heirs of police Shaheed. He said that likewise Karachi, plots to the legal heirs of police Shaheeds would be provided in other police ranges for which the pieces of land are being identified. The meeting at this stage discussed at length witness protection measures and implementation of Witness Protection Act. The IGP directed to remove the bottle-necks, if any, and adopt practical steps to provide security to witnesses as per the law.
