Sindh High Court (SHC) had sought submission of explanation about amendments made to the Motor Vehicle Act-2014 within 3 weeks. The amendments and the notification for placing the Motor Vehicle Inspector under Sindh Transport Authority(STA) were challenged in the SHC by Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) President Syed Irshad Hussain Bukhari through his lawyer Munsif Jan last week.
The challenger in his petition stated that Sindh Assembly had on May 28, 2014 amended the section 128 of the Sindh Motor Vehicle Act, which was not only against the law but was also against the public interest. He further stated that a notification was in this regard issued for placing the Motor Vehicle Inspector under Sindh Transport Authority while it was not possible that any police officer might perform in Transport Department in full uniform, which was restricted to use in police force. The challenger Bukhari also referred to a ruling of Supreme Court of Pakistan wherein the apex court had declared placement of any officer from other departments as unlawful.
