The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi rejected on Saturday a petition seeking bail of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)'s political worker who was accused of being involved in terrorist activities. Other than murder charges, the convict has been accused of carrying prohibited firearms and involvement in terrorist activities.
The convict who identified as Islam Ul Haq was taken into custody by Rangers from the Surjani Town of Karachi. There were some severe charges against the MQM worker arrested by Rangers. Rejecting the petition seeking bail of the terror accused, the court declared that striking similarities have been recorded between the weapons revealed from the accused and the bullets that hit the murder victim. With the present evidences at hand, permission for bail cannot be granted, therefore, the bail plea is cancelled, the court ordered.
According to MQM's website, the personnel of Super Market Police Station raided the house of Islam Ul Haq and arrested him in March 24, 2001. Islam Ul Haq 27, son of Anwar Ul Haq was a worker of MQM Unit 2, Sarjani Town Sector, Karachi. Earliet, Altaf Hussain demanded that Islam Ul Haq should be produced before the court and put in jail custody. Moreover, the leader of MQM had also strongly condemned the Pakistan Protection Ordinance and demanded its withdrawal from the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif terming the ordinance authoritarian, undemocratic and unconstitutional.
