Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has planned to organise an exhibition of products of Peshawar's artisans in Multan in collaboration with National Productivity Organisation (NPO) in October to revive the dying art of Peshawar. President of MCCI Khawaja Muhammad Usman said while exchanging views with NPO representatives headed by Ali Ahsan Chaudhry. Khurram Javed secretary general of MCCI was also present there.
Khawaja said that Multan Chamber had ever encouraged the artisans, skilled persons of whole country. He said that this exhibition will not only showcase Peshawar arts and crafts but will also bring back the lost glory through cultural activities," he said. "I think the exhibition will turn out to be a golden opportunity for artisans to revive dying arts and crafts for the people's sustainable development, especially for women empowerment.
People of Peshawar like people of south Punjab have great potential but they need just a platform for bringing out their hidden talent," he said. He said that marble pieces of various sizes and shapes used to be sent to Europe, Japan, America and other countries; these include, bowls, plates, urns, kozas, vases, images of camels, horses and musical instruments which are also relieved, carved and engraved skilfully on demand.
He further said the artisans of Peshawar have specialty in architectural woodwork, furniture and decoration pieces. They use pine, deodar, mulberry, shishham and walnut. The beautiful Chitrali embroidery common in handmade goods such as gowns, hat, shawls, mufflers, scarves, waistcoats, ladies' handbags and numerous other things.
