The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday directed Rangers personnel to place on record the notification that allowed paramilitary forces to confiscate the licensed weapons during search operation in the city. The direction came on a petition filed by Muhammad Nawaz, who approached the court against the Rangers personnel, for illegally seizing his two licensed weapons.
The petitioner said that the Ranger personnel during an operation in Malir's Jam Goth raided his house on February 12, 2014 and took away his two weapons - a 12 bore shot-gun of Russian-origin and a 12-bore gun of US-origin. He said that Malir's deputy commissioner had issued him armed license in March 1995 and he got it renewed on its expiry, adding that he got the two weapons on that license which was valid for Sindh. Rangers' personnel had illegally seized his licensed weapons, the petitioner said while requesting the court to direct Rangers officials to return his arms.
Rangers' Counsel Habib Ahmed said that Rangers was authorised to seize the licensed weapons during the search operation and the provincial government had issued a notification in this regard. The court asked paramilitary force to place on record the relevant notification and adjourned the hearing of the case till August 29.
