Sindh Bar Council (SBC) on Wednesday gave call for boycott of the court proceedings on Thursday throughout the province to express solidarity with parliament and democratic system. Addressing a press conference at SBCs conference hall, Mehmoodul Hassan, member SBC announced that legal proceedings on Thursday will remain suspended in the province and asked legal fraternity to stay away from the courts.
Mehmood while strongly criticising the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chief Tahirul Qadri for making illogical demands said there was no constitutional way to meet their illegal demands. He said that in presence of proper parliamentary system government cannot be ousted from power through display of street power. He declared that if any unconstitutional step was taken under the garb of showdown between governments and both parties, legal fraternity would resist it with full might and observe boycott of court proceedings for indefinite period, besides, staging protest demonstrations.
He said that democratic system was restored with the struggle of political parties and lawyers' movement in the bargain, adding derailing democracy will be intolerable. Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed, president Karachi Bar Association said that staging protest demonstrations was constitutional right of the parties but they should not cross the constitutional bounds to get their demands fulfilled. Government came to power through public mandate, given assemblies dissolved and government ousted would be violation of right of those who gave government a mandate. He said that government would set wrong precedent if it fulfils illegal demands of the PTI and PAT and it would be against unconstitutional means.
