The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed the secretary of the interior ministry to ensure that family of a missing man, who was kept at headquarters of Frontier Constabulary (FC), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), meets with him. The direction came on a petition filed by Abdul Majeed seeking recovery of his nephew Saeedur Rehman who was arrested by law enforcers from Saeedabad of Baldia Town, Karachi, in December 2012.
The counsel for the petitioner told the judges that despite court directions the provincial Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was not arranging meeting of the family of the missing man with detainee. The court expressed displeasure over the non-compliance of its order and directed the secretary of the ministry of interior to ensure that the meeting between family of missing man and detainee takes places within 10 days. Meanwhile, the court was told that there were 21 internment centers notified in Fata where 117 internees were kept. However, the names of detainees, Adnan Amin and Bilal, who were allegedly picked up by Rangers, were not mentioned in the list of 117 internees.
The two-judge bench was hearing a petition filed by Khanzada Khan seeking whereabouts of his son, Adnan Amin, along with his friend Bilal, baildar of the Frontier Constabulary. The petitioner's lawyer said that alleged detainees were picked up by the Sachal Rangers on October 30, 2012, and they were missing since then.
Earlier, the court observed that a large number of petitions since many years was pending due to inaction on the part of the federal government and directed the secretary of the interior ministry to ensure that a complete list of interment centers and detainees is placed on record within 10 days and upon failure appropriate orders shall be passed.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Salman Talibuddin, additional attorney general of Pakistan, submitted a list of internees detained in 21 internment centers notified in Fata but names of two detainees did not find any place in the list. Thus, the court directed him to place on record the requisite information about detainees on next hearing. The hearing was adjourned till August 29.
