The newly appointed Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Operations Asmatullah Junejo on Sunday said that police will ensure security of redlines defined by the government at all costs. Talking to media persons, he said police would not use force against unarmed protesters. The new SSP also apologised over excessive use of force against the workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).
He assured that Islamabad police will not take action against the unarmed people as they are our brother and sisters.
According to initial investigation 11 personnel of Punjab Constabulary were found guilty for use of force against protesters, he said. He said that cases will be registered against security personnel found involved in the Saturday night incident. "The high-ups of police will take strict action against those police personnel who are tarnishing the image of Islamabad police," he said.
The SSP said that some anti-state elements also involved the clashes with police. Junejo said that police have great respect for both PTI and PAT chiefs and expressed hope they would cooperate with the city police.
"The Police are negotiating with the leadership of both the parties to open road for joint session of the parliament which will be held on (Tuesday)," he said.
The SSP also condemned use of force against journalists and offers apology. He rejected any rift within Islamabad police, saying his predecessor has gone on leave due to some personal business.
"We've to accept the government orders whether we like it or not...'unfortunately' we have to accept the orders regarding protection of PM house as there is no history of any such protest outside PM house for the last 20 years," he added.
