Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, has deployed as many as 7,922 police officers/jawans (constables) in flood relief activities across the Punjab. These relief teams have so far evacuated 6,630 flood affected people including 29 families of district RY Khan, 25 of Mandi Baha-ud-Din and 20 families of Chiniot.
According to details, boats, trolleys and various vehicles were being used for relief activities by the police teams. They also rescued about 5,203 cattle along with the goods of the effected persons. Similarly, Punjab police also provided 3,493 mud bags to the local administration.
While performing extra ordinary relief activities only in Gujranwala region 3,102 persons including 1,904 cattle were evacuated by the police relief teams. Moreover, DPO Mandi Baha-ud-Din, Syed Junaid Arshad rescued a three-day old baby girl by driving a boat.
Besides, 2,530 Punjab traffic police officials were also deputed to ensure the traffic flow in the effected areas. Similarly, under the directions of the IGP Punjab, the police medical ambulances along with paramedical staff reached the affected areas; they will remain on duty till further orders. Meanwhile, a move by some spurious elements who were trying to breach BRB Canal has been defused by taking timely action of Sheikhupura Poli.
A police spokesman said here on Sunday that 300 relief camps have been set up in various government schools, community centres, technical training institutes, factories and offices of union councils. Among these include 4 camps in Nankana Sahib, 2 in Gujranwala, 15 Gujrat, 9 Hafizabad, 3 Mandi Baha-ud-Din, 19 Sialkot, 18 Narowal, 14 Jhelum, 12 Sargodha, 4 Khushab, 4 Bhakkar, 9 Toba Tek Singh, 18 Jhang, 7 Lodhran, 14 Vehari, 8 Sahiwal, 12 Okara, 33 Muzaffargarh, 40 Layyah, 19 Bahawalpur, 16 Bahawalnagar and 20 camps in Rahim Yar Khan.
