Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited flood-affected areas of Multan and Muzaffargarh districts on Wednesday noon and reviewed rescue and relief activities. He directed to speed up rescue and relief operation in flood-hit areas. Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif said the flood-affected people will be compensated for their losses and financial assistance will also be provided to them.
The Chief Minister said he would reach every affected area and ensure the provision of relief to the flood victims. "I will not rest till the rehabilitation of the last flood victim. I will always stand with the people, will live and die with the people," he pledged.
Shahbaz said he would encourage the officers who took active part in relief activities and serve the people in this hour of trial but would not tolerate those who showed negligence even for a single day. While speaking at a meeting at Head Muhammadwala in Muzaffargarh district, the CM directed the administration to provide dry ration, food and drinking water to the marooned people on priority basis. Chief Minister said the flood victims should not consider themselves alone as the provincial government is with them.
The Chief Minister was told at a briefing that more than 10,000 people had been shifted to safer places and more than 5,000 cattle had been vaccinated. The CM landed his helicopter on unpaved land in the flood-hit area of Muhammadwala. Upon seeing the Chief Minister the people gathered in large numbers and raised slogans in his favour. Shahbaz reviewed relief activities in this area and inquired from the flood victims about their problems. Addressing the administrative officers in Multan, the CM warned them against showing any kind of negligence in relief activities. He said flood is a test not only for him but it is the test of public representatives and officers as well.
The DCO Multan Zahid Salim Gondal gave a briefing about relief activities to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister ordered provision of more fibre boats to district administration of Molten and Muzaffargarh and asked the administration to set up a tent village at protective dyke and make arrangements for setting up medical camp, veterinary dispensary, fodder for animals, eatable items for affected people and other facilities.
