Sindh Information Minister Sharjil Memon has said that a peak flood of around 0.7 million cusecs of water is expected to enter River Indus and the provincial government has already finalised a strategy to deal with the flooding challenge in an effective and meaningful manner. Talking to media persons during his visit to Ghaliyan Bund near
Qasimabad on Saturday, the Minister announced that all dykes, both at the right and left banks of River Indus, are intact. However, strict monitoring is being carried out by the provincial ministers in order to avert any eventuality during the passage of flood peak. On the directives of Chairperson Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sharjil Memon informed that all provincial ministers and elected representatives are monitoring the flood situation in their respective constituencies. He advised all those people who are residing in the river bed to vacate the area immediately in order to avoid human loss during the passage of the flood peak and take shelter in relief camps which have already set up by the provincial government.
All required facilities are available in these relief camps, he said and informed that besides cash amount, the PDMA has also provided tents, relief goods and medicines to the concerned district administrations. Responding to a question about health and sanitation conditions in Hyderabad, the Minister said that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah is taking keen interest in this direction and a comprehensive plan is being prepared for the development of Hyderabad. Replying to another question about Dharnas (sit-ins) in Islamabad, the Provincial Minister said that both Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri should realise that Pakistan Army is engaged in war against terrorism as well as flood relief measures and these parties should continue dialogues with the federal government to sort out the issue. The PPP firmly believed in resolving the issue through dialogues instead of protest demonstrations.
