A ceremony for "Young Researcher Awards 2013" was held at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Wednesday to recognise the significant contributions of young faculty members in research and training of students. Gold Medals and cash prizes were given to Dr Tariq Mehmood, Assistant Professor of Plant Sciences, Dr Abdul Jalil, Assistant Professor of Economics, Dr Afzal Shah, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Dr Bilal Haider Abbasi, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology.
Congratulating the award winners, QAU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Eatzaz Ahmed said that the purpose of establishing the award was to involve the young researchers more energetically and to promote research culture on the campus. He said that "Young Researcher Awards" will be presented annually to selected faculty members who would make exceptional contributions in research.
He urged the young scientists that research and knowledge related activities should closely align with indigenous needs "you must pay attention towards those areas, which can contribute to the socio-economic uplift of the country" said the Vice Chancellor. Deans of the faculties, Chairpersons of the departments, senior faculty and staff members attended the ceremony.-PR
