In the wake of devastating floods played havoc recently in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Punjab, Imran Khan Foundation (IKF) is actively involved in relief activities on instructions of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan. A rapid assessment has been conducted to determine the magnitude and severity of the floods as well as the need for emergency food relief items and temporary shelters, said a Foundation's spokesperson here on Wednesday.
As a first phase after assessment, Imran Khan Foundation has been able to identify an immediate need for the provision of emergency relief packages in different parts of AJK and Punjab. Five hundred families in AJK, 500 in Chiniot and 500 families in Jhang have already been supplied with emergency food relief items in wake of recent floods.
"Recently, IKF relief team has visited an area of approximately 150km from Athara Hazari (in Jhang) to Shujabad (in Multan). A couple of boat trips were made to assess the status of the effort and to meet with some of the uprooted families stranded on higher ground in the flooded area. Visits were also made to various relief medical camps along the way. The six worst-affected UCs in Shujabad are Khanpur Qazian, Paunta, Mara, Gardespur, Jalalpur Khaki and Bagrian. The uprooted families are in need of emergency health care relief also. To this end, a mobile health unit is being deployed to the affected districts, while the loss of human life was largely averted due to the preparedness for this crisis, livestock and crop losses are immense," he said.
According to him, as required by IKF teams in the field, second consignment of food items for emergency relief will be dispatched to Aathaara Hazaari (Jhang) and Shujabad near Multan and adjoining areas for the effected people. Seven trucks have been dispatched carrying these food hampers to above mentioned flood affected areas on September 17 from Imran Khan Foundation liberty office in Lahore. The food hampers include necessary food items, including attaa (flour), sugar, pulses, tea, milk and cooking oil.
