Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has prepared new plan for prevention and control of dengue in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. New plan has been finalised after expiry of three-year dengue prevention programme in June 2014. A meeting was held here on Thursday with Minister for State Barrister Usman Ibrahim of CADD in the chair to review the programme and its implementation this year.
So far federal government spent 31 million rupees in last three year. On the directive of State Minister, a co-ordination and review committee would be formed under the supervision of Additional Secretary CADD to review the progress of the programme. Mutual trainings regarding dengue awareness and prevention would be arranged for the technical and professional health staff of hospitals of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
This year in Islamabad, only one patient out of seven reported of dengue virus has been confirmed so far which is less than last year's number. A proposal is under consideration that Islamabad and Rawalpindi should be considered one unit in fight against dengue.
A comprehensive system has already been devised not only to identify the patients, but the prospective dengue risk areas as well. Proper counters have been established in hospitals in Rawalpindi and Islamabad both to verify the dengue patients. In twin cities, thorough inspection and risk mapping is done and all the high risk areas including nullahs, manholes, parks, water leakage areas, tyres making areas, water tanks and waste disposals are identified.
