The Karachi Port handled 140,727 tonnes of cargo comprising 110,381 tonnes of import cargo and 30,346 tonnes of export cargo including 7,711 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 110,381 tonnes comprised of 65,904 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,707 tonnes of general cargo; 16,676 tonnes of bulk cargo: 4,232 tonnes of wheat; 4,756 tonnes of DAP; 4,353 tonnes of soyabean meal; 2,525 tonnes of rape seed and 16,094 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 30,346 tonnes comprised of 6,486 tonnes of containerised cargo and 30 tonnes of general cargo; 6,762 tonnes of cement and 17,068 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 7,711 containers comprising 5,280 containers import and 2,431 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The break-up of imported containers shows 1,016 of 20's and 2,112 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 20 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 109 of 20's and 175 of 40's loaded containers while 704 of 20's and 634 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely Posen, El Gurdabia and Jin Bo carrying containers, oil tanker, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. Nagoya Tower, OOCL New York, APL Seattle, Al-Salam-II, Sinar Kutai, Jin Bo and Sila carrying containers, oil tanker, cement and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were three ships namely Ocean Star-1, Bofors and Osam Jumbo-5 carrying oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while two ships namely Nagoya Tower and OOCL New York carrying containers are expected to sail on Saturday. There were two vessels viz. UASC Ajman and Vega Libra carrying containers and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Friday, while ten vessels viz. PAC Aries, MOL Distinction, Santa Rosa, Hanjin Scarlet, CS Tina, Al Mahboobah, Sidra Ras Lafan, Soleil, Somerset and Amoy Progress carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical, rock phosphate, cement and steel respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
The total import cargo of 87,320 tonnes includes 24,378 tonnes of furnace oil; 8,190 tonnes of palm oil; 4,861 tonnes of coal; 11,910 tonnes of wheat and 37,981 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 48,533 tonnes includes 4,552 tonnes of cement; 2,466 tonnes of rice and 41,515 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 4,184 containers comprising 1,999 containers import and 2,185 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
There were four ships namely CV Saigon Express, CV Sealand Washington, MT Ever Mighty and MT RBD Anema-e-Core with containers and furnace oil sailed out sea on Friday morning, while two more ships namely CV Hungo Schulte and MT Chem Road Echo with containers and furnace oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of nine vessels viz. CV Hungo Schulte, CV Saigon Express, CV Sealand Washington, MT Lito, Luxury SW, MV Ikan Salmon, MT Ever Mighty, MT Chem Road Echo and MT Lahore currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, rice, cement, wheat, coal, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as six ships namely Tabea, Mandrain Ocean, Hung Huan, Amsel, TR Niklas and Pacific Sun with containers, rape seed, iron ore and phosphoric acid are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were four vessels viz. CV Tabea, CV Delmas Keta, MV Sea Charming and MV TR Niklas carrying containers, chemical and iron ore expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Iron Ore & Coal Terminal respectively on Friday. There are no ships due to arrive on Friday.
