Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry visited office of the Regional Bureau Rawalpindi on Monday and inaugurated NAB's Forensic Laboratory. Director General (DG) NAB Rawalpindi, DG Training and Research Division (T&R) and other senior officers of the Bureau were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, Chairman Qamar Zaman said that main purpose of this laboratory is to equip NAB with latest technology to cater for its emerging needs to eliminate the menace of corruption form the society. The Chairman directed DG (T&R) to provide state-of-the-art training to the officers who have been posted at the Forensic Lab. Chairman advised DG (T&R) that this Forensic Lab not only should fulfil Bureau's own requirements, but it should be referred as one of the authentic Forensic Lab of the country.
With the help of properly functioning forensic Lab, Investigation Officers (IOs) probing different high profile corruption cases will be able to produce better and quick results for the Bureau. Currently, NAB is taking help from other investigating agencies to meet its needs in the cases where help of forensic experts is needed. This not only causes delays in investigation process but also impinges on secrecy issues. Establishment of Forensic Lab will help retrieve of documents from electronic devices like cell phones, computers, iPads and networks and its preservation, to determine authorship of questioned hand writings, identity of questioned typescripts and printed documents, to detect forgeries in questioned documents, to determine interpolations, additions or overwriting and substitution of papers and to decipher erased (mechanically or chemically) or overwriting.-PR
