Kashmiri leaders have welcomed the bold and categorical stance by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawz Sharif on Kashmir issue during his speeches to UN General Assembly. Talking to media in Muzaffarabad on Saturday, AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed said Nawaz Sharif strongly pleaded the cause of people of Kashmir.
Opposition leader in AJK Legislative Assembly Raja Farooq Haider Khan welcoming the address said it will give a new impetus to the Kashmiris liberation struggle. AJK Jamaat-i-Islami Amir, Abdur Rashid Turabi said the Prime Minister in his address at the World Body represented aspirations of Pakistani and Kashmir people.
Another Kashmir Leader, Sardar Khalid Ibrahim also hailed Prime Minister's stance on Kashmir issue. In Occupied Kashmir, the APHC leaders have also hailed the statement of Pakistan Prime Minister on Kashmir at the UN, terming it a reality. In a statement, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani and Muhammad Yasin Malik said Nawaz Sharif during his speech in the General Assembly stressed the need to settle the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris' aspirations.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq urged Indian leaders to adopt a realistic approach and settle the lingering dispute, once for all. Syed Ali Gilani said Pakistan has always supported the Kashmir cause at the global level and this support has been the source of inspiration for the Kashmiri people. On the other hand, unidentified gunmen shot dead an Indian trooper in Safa Kadal area of Srinagar.
In New York, the OIC Contact Group on Kashmir has called for a fair resolution of the long-standing Kashmir dispute. Addressing a meeting chaired by the OIC Secretary-General Kashmiri representative Iyad Ameen Madni said India must stop its brutalities on Kashmiri people. He said the people of Occupied Kashmir are facing flagrant violation of their rights enunciated by the international law.
