WhatsApp has revealed that it will soon stop working on some of the older iPhones and Android smartphones.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has announced via its blog post that it will soon cut down support from various smartphones in the next two years.

The blog post titled ‘Support for older operation systems’ stated that it will stop working on some of the systems on February 1, 2020. These include iOS 7 and older and Android Gingerbread versions 2.3.7 and older. However, support for Nokia S40 will be until December 31, 2018.

Users of those operating systems can no longer create new WhatsApp accounts, but will be able to use WhatsApp until the deadline. Also, the app might also stop working at any time.

WhatsApp finally rolls out group audio calls

WhatsApp listed some of the operating systems that no longer support the app. These include Android versions older than 2.3.3, iPhone 3GS/iOS 6, Nokia Symbian S60, Windows Phone 8.0 and older, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10.

WhatsApp recommended that those users using older operating systems, they should update to newer versions or to Android 4.0+, iOS 8+, and Windows Phone 8.1+. “Once you have one of these devices, simply install WhatsApp and verify your phone number on the new device. Keep in mind that WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at a time,” wrote WhatsApp.

It informed, “There’s currently no option to transfer your chat history between platforms. However, we provide the option to send your chat history attached to an email.”
