Islamabad police on Monday registered another case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, three federal ministers and six others on charges of murder, attempt to murder and terrorism over the killings of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers on August 30, 2014 during a police crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) protesters in the Red Zone of Islamabad.
The Secretariat police registered an FIR under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (7ATA), sections 302, 324, 148, 149 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against Prime Minister, Chief Minister Punjab, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif and Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique, the IGPs Islamabad, Punjab and Railways and others, on the directives of Judge Shahrukh Arjumand on September 27 in response to an application filed by PTI regarding the August 30 incident, which led to the deaths of three political workers. The PTI had filed an application days after the August 30 violence, but on police's failure to register the case, the party moved a sessions court under clause 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to redress its grievances.
