Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Central Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said that demand for resignation, or leave from the Prime Minister were unconstitutional and out of logic, adding that a proper procedure to unseat the premier. "We supported the prime minister to block the way of any unconstitutional move and strengthen democracy," Sherpao told reporters after chairing provincial council meeting of the party here on Wednesday, wherein the provincial officer-bearers for the party were elected.
Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao was elected as provincial chairman, Bakht Baidar Khan as senior vice chairman and Hashim Babar as general secretary. QWP's Election Commissioner former Justice Shahjehan Khan, Member Provincial Assembly Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, former senator Shujaul Mulk Khan, Jamil Marghuz, former senator Haji Ghufran Khan, Abdul Malik Khan Tordher and a large number of party workers were present on the occasion.
Sherpao said the PTI leadership should wait for the next general election instead of making unconstitutional demands. He said governments couldn't be changed by staging protests. The QWP leader said that his party was committed to removing the sense of deprivation among the Pakhtuns and working for the uplift and development of the hitherto neglected areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government has abandoned the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan, who rendered sacrifices for the restoration of peace in the country.
The kidnapping for ransom, extortion and target killings, Sherpao said, have become an order of the day, but the rulers were least bothered to protect the people. He said investors were reluctant to invest in any sector in the province owing to the fragile security situation. He said the popularity of the PTI leadership has declined due to the politics of sit-ins as the KP rulers have failed to address the problems that the commoners were grappling with. "Those dancing on the stage cannot become the leaders of the Pakhtuns," he sneered. QWP chief said his party workers would take to the streets if the PTI rulers didn't mend their ways. "We will show our strength if the provincial government doesn't take steps to ensure good governance and deliver on the election pledges," he vowed. He said the PTI leadership had double standards as it asked party MNAs to resign from the National Assembly seats, but avoided quitting the provincial government. He said the PTI government couldn't hold the local government elections in more than one year.
Sherpao said the PTI leaders wanted to win political support in Punjab by compromising on the rights of the Pakhtuns. He said the rising polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa showed that the KP government didn't have the will and expertise to fight the crippling disease. In his address, the newly elected Provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao thanked for party workers for reposing confidence in him and said he would not let them down. He said no effort would be spared to restore peace on the soil of the Pakhtuns, who have been exposed to a host of challenges. "We want to see an end to the bloodshed and restore peace," he said.
Sikandar Sherpao said nobody would be allowed to use the soil of the Pakhtuns for acts of terrorism. He said his party would raise voice for the rights of the Pakhtuns. He said those claiming to be the champions of the rights of the Pakhtuns ditched them in distress. He asked the federal government to pay the arrears of the net hydel profit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
