Some 0.35 million children were administered polio drops during a three-day National Immunisation campaign in the city's District Central, official said. Deputy Commissioner district Central Dr Syed Saifur Rehman, said that campaign was successfully carried out in 42 Union Council (UCs) of the district where 3,37,842 children were immunised against polio virus.
Giving details, he said that 69,130 children were covered by 245 polio teams in the district's Gulberg sub-division, 1,18,767 children by 343 teams in North Karachi, 82,755 children by 305 teams in Liaquatabad and 67,190 children by 265 teams in North Nazimabad. These children were administered polio drops and vitamin A capsules. As many as 1158 polio teams with the help of 270 area in-charges took part in the campaign, he added.
Dr Rehman said that initially few people refused to get their children vaccinated against polio, but when they were told that the polio drops were in the interest of their children, they got their children administered polio vaccination. He lauded the co-operation of police, health department and parents for the success of the campaign in the district. "It is a national cause to eradicate this virus from Pakistan and citizens should play their role in saving our children," he added.
