The city witnessed worst gridlocks on Wednesday due to a protest sit-in staged by Ahl-e Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) at Guru Mandir against the alleged extra-judicial killings and forced disappearance of its activists.
The ASWJ while vowing to continue with their ongoing sit-in at Guru Mandir announced to stage another sit-in outside Governor House Sindh, which prompted the provincial administration to block routes leading to Governor House that caused severe traffic jam on M A Jinnah Road, Saddar, Regal Chowk, Preedy Street, New M A Jinnah Road, Purani Numaish, Shahra-e Quaideen, Soldier Bazar, Lucky Star, and many other arteries of the city.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Secretary on the direction of Sindh government held negotiations with ASWJ Central Information Secretary Allama Aurangzeb Farooqui and other leader and persuaded the ASWJ leadership to call off the sit-in till Friday. An ASWJ spokesperson said Sindh Home Secretary had assured ASWJ leadership to produce the 16 missing activists by Friday. Therefore, he added, the ASWJ called off its sit-in till Friday. If the Home Secretary did not fulfil his commitment, the central Shura of the party would meet on Saturday to decide future line of action, he added.
