Yorkshire's County Championship-winning openers Adam Lyth and Alex Lees were named player of the year and young player of the year respectively by England's Professional Cricketers Association on Wednesday. Both awards, handed out at a presentation ceremony in London, came just 24 hours after the White Rose duo, who have both yet to play for England, had received the corresponding honours from the Cricket Writers' Club.
Lyth, 27, topped the First Division scoring charts with 1,489 runs and six centuries at an average of 67.68, while Lees' 971 runs came at an average of 44.13 with two hundreds. "It's definitely up there, to be voted for an award by my peers, it's fantastic," Lees said. "I'm only 21 so there hasn't been that much that's gone on so far.
