Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) for the establishment of six primary and three secondary unit TCF schools in Thar. The schools will be located in SECMC's Thar Block II and Islamkot Town with the project completion scheduled for year 2016-17. The MoU was signed by Shamsuddin Shaikh, CEO SECMC and Mushtaq Chapra, Chairman TCF at a signing ceremony held in Karachi on Thursday.
Shamsuddin Shaikh while addressing the media persons said, "It is our responsibility to ensure the well-being of the communities that host us. The provision of schools in Thar Block II and Islamkot is a first step towards the social development of this long neglected region of Sindh and a realization of our vision to deploy inclusive businesses where our communities grow with us." Providing primary and secondary education to the children of Thar will not only brighten their future but also allow them better socio-economic opportunities and make for a better and prosperous Sindh."
Chappra, Chairman TCF said, "The vision of TCF is to remove barriers between class and privilege and to make the citizens of Pakistan agents of positive change. We appreciate the generosity of SECMC, and I personally thank SECMC for taking this initiative." The Citizens Foundation is one of the very few voluntary organisations in Karachi.
Currently, TCF has established 1,000 purpose-built School units nationwide with an enrolment of 1,45,000 students. The TCF encourages female enrolment and strives to maintain a 50 percent female ratio in most of its campuses.-PR
