Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday predicted mid-term elections before next Eid, adding that his party would form the government. Addressing his supporters at Azadi Square in front of the Parliament House on 52nd day of the dharna, Imran said the public is now aware of their basic human rights and will not allow vote rigging in the next polls.
"We are ready to contest the next elections, as the party's message of justice and merit has reached each home across the country," he said, adding that whenever the next general elections are held, PTI would stand victorious. The PTI chief said Allah brings forth the truth and some officials who were earlier afraid of the rulers are now coming up with facts about vote rigging in the previous general elections.
"People are ready to record their statements and testify about vote rigging before a judicial commission, if it is constituted by the government," he said. In a veiled reference to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he said nobody can become leader by getting funds from Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and playing in the laps of the 'army generals'.
"The Supreme Court has given a verdict in Asghar Khan case wherein it is proved that Nawaz Sharif along with other politicians took money from the ISI for their elections campaigns," he said. Khan urged his supporters to struggle in their lives to achieve their desired goals as there is no shortcut to success. "I wasn't made a cricketer by GHQ. Nobody can achieve any milestone without a struggle," he added.
On former President Asif Ali Zardari, Imran said nobody can become a leader through a will. "A political party is not somebody's home or factory that could be handed over to his heirs on a will," he said. Talking about Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he said Mufti Mahmood was a good leader and religious scholar but his son, Fazlur Rehman, is not eligible to even run a factory. "It is ridiculous that political leaders transfer their parties to their children like factories and other assets," he said. The PTI chief said that petrol prices were cut by the government due to pressure exerted by the sit-ins. He was of the view that fuel prices would be further reduced in coming months. Khan said his party has arranged special programmes for women and children on Eid day that is going to be celebrated in Azadi Square. "This will be the most memorable Eid in my life and you (the participants) too will cherish it in your whole life," he said.
