Sevilla moved ahead of La Liga champions Atletico Madrid into third place with a convincing 4-1 home win over bottom side Deportivo la Coruna on Sunday. Cameroonian midfielder Stephane Mbia continued his fine scoring form as he opened the scoring midway through the first-half, but Deportivo levelled soon after thanks to Haris Medunjanin's free-kick.
However, Sevilla weren't to be denied as Colombian international Carlos Bacca restored their lead before half-time and Mbia and Vitolo secured the three points with further goals after the break.
Sevilla had suffered their first defeat of the season in a 4-0 thrashing by Atletico last weekend, but victory moves them two points clear of Diego Simeone's side and to within six points of leaders Barcelona.
Real Madrid can also overtake Atletico to move into fourth should they win for the sixth consecutive game in all competitions when they host Athletic Bilbao later on Sunday.
