Various parts of the city continued to face prolonged and unannounced load-shedding on the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, although Karachi Electric (KE) had announced that the entire city would be supplied uninterrupted power supply during Eid holidays. Frequents power failures also badly disrupted the city's water supply.
The worst affected localities include Landhi, Korangi, Manzoor Colony, Shah Faisal Colony, DHA, Clifton, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, New Karachi, Buffer Zone, Gulberg, industrial zones and their joining localities. KWSB management attributed the water shortage to prolonged and unannounced suspension of electricity to its major water pumping stations.
The unannounced suspension of electricity at the major pumping stations of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), including Pipri and Gharo, caused acute water shortage in various parts of the city, and thus compelling the residents of water-starved localities to purchase private tankers at exorbitant rates.
Irony of the fact was that although residents of various parts of the city went without water and experienced prolonged power failures on Eid holidays, neither Sindh government nor any political or religious party took notice of the plight of Karachiites. According to KWSB, the water supply to several parts of metropolis was affected on Thursday also due to interruption in power supply at its major pumping stations. "Main feeder stopped supplying electricity to KWSB at 5am on Thursday, resulting into suspension of water supply," KWSB said.
